How to support movement for life and active aging in the workplace
Published by HealthFitness on February 1st, 2024
You may have heard the terms “movement for life” and “active aging,” but what do they really mean? The World Health Organization emphasizes the importance of engaging in a variety of activities to keep your mind, body, emotions, and spirit active, regardless of your age, health, or socioeconomic status. Being diligent about your own health and wellbeing is also important.
Movement for life is an evolution of active aging. As we age, it is important to prioritize both physical and mental wellbeing in order to prevent and manage chronic health conditions and avoid injuries. This is especially crucial considering that people are living longer nowadays.
Everyone has witnessed changes in our bodies over the years. The focus has shifted from defying societal expectations of how people in their 30s, 40s, and 50s should look, to prioritizing our health in order to maintain the activities that matter to us. Adults of any age should pay attention to this. Research indicates that individuals are extending their working years, thus highlighting the importance of supporting their wellbeing as they age.
Supporting active aging
Building and maintaining muscle mass, improving balance, flexibility, and coordination are essential for both physical activity and daily life activities. Functional training and strength training play a crucial role in achieving these goals.
Our research indicates that strength training is becoming increasingly important to individuals, who are seeking personalized training programs tailored to their specific needs. Our personal training program has experienced a significant 62 percent growth since 2022.
We are supporting this growth by launching the HealthFitness Movement Training System. This is a formal educational program for our HealthFitness associates, which focuses on fundamental movements and a methodology to help our members train for life. We can achieve a consistent delivery and language across our client sites, which improves how the HealthFitness team interacts with participants.
We can evaluate participants' movement patterns, muscular imbalances, and compensations to provide a customized solution that caters to their specific needs and goals. Our main focus is on optimizing movement and overall health. We prioritize injury prevention and training movements rather than just muscle groups.
Promoting movement for life
Our HealthFitness teams incorporate mobility, activation, and dynamic exercises (MAD) into our programming for participants in activities such as group exercise classes and webinars. We strive to educate all participants, regardless of the activity they are engaged in. The significance of this lies in how MAD effectively tackles the issue of overactive vs. underactive muscle activity, enabling participants to move with correct form.
HealthFitness also provides small group training sessions that help participants learn how to navigate various exercise phases, enhancing their program design and introducing variety. Our goals is to educate participants and assist them in improving their movement abilities, ensuring they can move confidently throughout their lives.
