8 fitness and wellness strategies to attract employees back on-site
Published by HealthFitness on June 3rd, 2024
With hybrid work environments here to stay, here are eight innovative fitness and wellness engagement strategies our clients are using to help engage and attract employees back on-site.
1. Wellness Wednesdays
A leading technology company hosts Wellness Wednesdays at its corporate fitness center to encourage hybrid and remote employees come to the on-site corporate campus for the day. Our fitness center staff runs a variety of activities, including meet and greets, fitness games, group meditation, scavenger hunts, and smoothie collabs with the corporate cafeteria.
2. Outdoor fitness
This insurance company invested in an open-air fitness solution that includes a custom logo mobile fitness trailer from BeaverFit, along with our outdoor group class programming that is delivered by the HealthFitness staff. We showcased the outdoor fitness program during the company’s Welcome to Spring on Campus event to create excitement and attract employees back to the office.
3. Friendly competition
With a focus on getting employees to return on-site, our HealthFitness team at this data storage company added fun activities including a doubles ping pong tournament with each team playing three matches, followed by a single elimination tournament. The winning team received gift cards—and 100% of participants said they would enter the tournament again. Our team also led a 1980s themed group exercise class and Fitness Center bingo, where employees were able to cross off squares after completing activities such as going on a 15-minute walk, avoiding sugary drinks, attending group exercise classes, and more.
4. Global Health and Fitness month
In observance of Global Health and Fitness month, this leading insurance company is hosting a day of fun games and activities for its hybrid and remote workforce. On-site activities include a grill out on the patio, back health screenings, self-defense workshop and a fun game circuit that includes mini golf, bocce ball, giant Jenga, frisbee and more!
5. Connecting on Earth Day
This biotech firm invited all employees to celebrate Earth Day and provided an opportunity for employees to connect and build new or maintain existing professional relationships. On-site activities include a networking event where employees bring their own reusable mug, a tree planting ceremony and an Earth Day fair complete with a wellness walk.
6. Fitness Week
To create excitement around returning to the office, staff at this leading retail company held Fitness Week for the first time since 2019! Activities include a four-day volleyball tournament, a 1-mile fun run, three Beat the Trainer activities, lawn games and specialty classes throughout the week. Employees were excited to participate, have fun and connect on-site.
7. Fitness for charity
Employees at this technology company earn points for participating in on-site and virtual fitness program events during the month-long Fitness for Charity Challenge. For example, employees receive 10 points for each on-site or virtual group exercise class, and 30 points for attending an on-site or virtual meditation session. For each point employees earn, the company’s foundation donates $2 to the Global Giving Foundation. Employees were excited to come together to make a difference, raising $11,000 for the Foundation—and on-site fitness center participation increased by 60 percent.
8. Pop-up group exercise
To create enthusiasm and increase engagement for on-site group fitness classes, our HealthFitness team at this leading automaker offers group fitness classes in new formats that are not on the regular group exercise schedule. They announce the pop-up classes two days before the class to gauge interest and generate excitement — and often bring in a new instructor to create a buzz.
