Weight loss with personal training

Published by HealthFitness on July 29th, 2023

"Slow but steady wins the race," may be a cliché, but it can also be very true, especially when it comes to adopting a healthy lifestyle.

When her youngest child wanted to call a 1-800 number to order diet pills for Amy, she recognized that something had to change. She knew she had a lot of weight to lose, but she had always been intimidated by the idea of working out.

Amy gathered the strength to make her first visit to the Cardinal Health Fitness Center. She was self-conscious and didn't want to ask questions -- she just wanted to get started. This was in December 2011. By the middle of the following February, Amy was a bit more comfortable at the fitness center, but it didn't feel like she was making much progress.

Then Amy met HealthFitness professional Drew Weizer. Drew began by offering simple advice on fitness equipment. He later encouraged Amy to consider the personal training program, and he mentioned that a great way to stay consistent and accountable was to sign up for personal training with a buddy. A few hallway conversations later, Amy and a buddy signed up to train with Drew.

From this pretty simple start a decade ago, Amy has continued to find ways to incorporate fitness into her life. She’s continued her buddy training with Drew, and now she participates regularly in group exercise classes and fitness challenges designed by HealthFitness professionals. One particular source of pride? Amy and her buddy won the championship for the “Battle of the Buds” partner workout challenge.

The fact that Amy has now lost more than 100 lbs. is absolutely amazing, but it's only part of the story. Being active, eating better, managing stress and getting enough sleep are now habits for Amy and her family. Amy’s husband and kids now join her for weekend kayaking trips, bike riding and trips to outdoor destinations including Yellowstone National Park. Amy’s husband has even been able to go off his heart and blood pressure medications!

Amy wholeheartedly thanks Cardinal Health for providing the fitness center and HealthFitness for bringing Drew and other dedicated professionals to her. She also recognizes that the key from the very beginning has been her dedication to maintaining her health. Whether exercising at the fitness center or using at-home workouts Drew and the other fitness center staff provide, it really is often about just showing up every day.
